Fish Tales Fly Shop is the place fishers go to load up on gear, fish stories, find the current fishing information, learn about fishing and to sign up for a guided fishing adventure. The shop began in 1997 and has since become a cornerstone of the local fishing industry.
Guided Fishing with Fish Tales Fly Shop
They offer pre-run and post-run guided fishing trips mostly on the Bow River. April/May is the time for pre-run fishing adventures and from summer through the early parts of fall is the post-run season.
The guides are all in-house and they are fishers who not only love helping other people fish but spend much of their free time fishing in the same waters. It is their passion, knowledge, and skill that will make your fishing adventure on the Bow River the best it can possibly be. Expect a professional fishing trip with plenty of opportunities to target big Trophy Rainbows and Big Trophy Browns.
Most of the guided trips through Fish Tales Fly Shop are on the lower Bow. This is the area where fishermen come from the world over to battle big trophy Trout.

Fishing the Bow River
The Bow River starts at Bow Lake, which is in Banff National Park. As it cascades down the Eastern Rockies it creates many fishing opportunities. As it passes through Calgary, it tames down a bit and the waters begin to meander through runs, riffles, and bends. It is in these waters that drift fishing is so prevalent.
The slower waters mean more aquatic insects and other food sources for the fish. This is also a catch and release river so years and years of conservation have built up a huge population of big Rainbow Trout and big Trophy Brown Trout.
There is an estimated 2,500 Trout per mile of the Bow River and that number is one of the reasons this is such a wonderful place to fish. You can also opt to fish the upper Bow which is more of a walk and wade type of fishing experience but you gain access to alpine lakes, Cutthroat Trout, Brook Trout, and Bull Trout. The local area offers something for everyone who fly fishes.
