Fishing with Gateway North Outfitters

First, these guys provide service to a lot of local lakes. The cabins are rustic, but comfortable. The Drive in Fishing is part of the Clearwater-pipestone series of lakes. Here guests have access to three cabins. Expect clean, well-equipped and well maintained cabins. Here you can target Walleye, Northern Pike, Crappie, Perch and Smallmouth Bass. The Walleye run 15-18 inches with trophies tipping the rod at 28 inches or larger. The Northern Pike run 21-25 inches with a few trophies in the 40 inch range. For Smallmouth Bass the common fish are 13-16 inches with monsters in the 20 inch range.

The Boat-in Cabins sit along Watson Bay on the Pipestone Lake. This is the place for Smallmouth Bass fishermen and those who love trophy Walleye or to chase after the Muskie. The Smallmouth Bass are common in the 2-4 pound range. The Muskie reach 55 inches and are best fished for during July and August. There are Lake Trout here in the 5-8 pound range with a few trophies in the 20 pound range. For Walleyes expect a lot in the 19-14 inch range with a good population of those in the 27-31 inch range.

The Fly-in Fishing is awesome because you can target the fish by the lake. There are many lakes that allow fly-in fishing and many are remote and seldom fished.

Consider your target fish carefully as the options are long. Most people come to fish for the Walleye, and why not there is a huge population of trophy-sized Walleye available. They, however, are not the biggest fish available. That would be the Muskie. Muskie are cantankerous but once you hook one, you will fall in love with these huge fighting fish. Northern Pike are also large and put up a good fight. The best part about Northern Pike is you can fish them with flies or lure. Some of the local lakes also have Largemouth Bass and many have Smallmouth Bass too. In between all of these options are lakes full of Trout.
