The Island Lake Lodge sits some 80 air miles Northwest of Fort McMurray and within the sub-arctic region along the Burch Mountains. This is a full-service lodge along the shores of Island Lake. The lodge is accessible only by airplane. You can opt for either a ground plane or float plane as transport from Fort McMurray.

The lodge offers full-service which includes home cooked meals, log cabins, and room for 16 guests.

Cabins are well-equipped and include electricity, propane appliances, wood stoves, propane BBQ, and plenty of seating. There is a kitchenette in each cabin or you can take advantage of the lodge's dining room.

Fishing with Island Lake Lodge

The lake is fair-sized. It has roughly 16.5 square miles of surface with a mixed depth. However, much of the lake offers shallow fishing, which is prolific during the summer months. There are plenty of islands that dot the lake's surface and these are the perfect habitat for growing big fish.

The season here is from late May through the end of September.

In addition to Island Lake, guests have access to Gardiner Lake as a portage lake. Gardiner Lake is certified as a Trophy Fish Lake. Both lakes are catch-and-release as part of the province's sustainable fishing program. What this means for guests of the lodge is that there is more opportunity to fish big Trophy Walleye and Trophy Northern Pike.

While fishing is the main focus of the lodge they offer other services too. In the spring and fall, guests can hunt for bear. In the fall, usually around mid-September, moose season opens.

There is much to do here and some guests come just to enjoy the scenery, take photographs, or relax away from the social pressures of home.
