In addition, there are two wilderness lodges giving anglers access to some of the best fishing in the Armstrong area. The drive is worth it for big Northern Pike, Walleye, Lake Trout, Sturgeon and Whitefish.

Lodging with Mattice Lake Outfitters

Each outpost camp has its own lake all of which are part of the Ogoki-Albany River System. The lakes vary in size. Some are medium-sized at 9,000 plus acres while others approach the large lake size of 25,000 acres. The outpost cabins are fully equipped. They offer propane refrigerators, gas stoves, and all of the pots, pans and utensils you would need to make good meals. There is solar electricity, and heating is via a wood stove. The lodge provides firewood. The cabins offer comfortable beds with mattresses. There is ice for packing fish. Overall, expect clean, well maintained units with plenty of comfort.

Fishing with Mattice Lake Outfitters

Guests fish from newer Lund boats with 9.9 hp Mercury motors and plenty of gas. Each lake offers something different. while the list of fishing species here is long, not all species are found on all lakes.

For good Walleye Fishing, Attwood Lake, Luella Lake, Hurst Lake, Whiteclay Lake, Mojikit Lake, and Vick Lake are good.

For Northern Pike Fishing, Guerin Lake, Auger Lake, Vick Lake, Whiteclay Lake, Mojikit Lake, Hurst Lake, Atwood Lake are all good bets.

For Lake Trout, Luella Lake is awesome and Hurst Lake, Atwood Lake and Atwood Lake West all provide good Lake Trout fishing.

For Brook Trout, Atwood Lake and Atwood Lake West offer the only two locations for Brook Trout.

Overall, expect good fishing. This is also a year round lodge that offers hunting opportunities too. This is an outstanding area for Moose, but the primary reason people come here is for the great fishing. If you are into fishing for Sturgeon, check with the lodge about the best outpost at which to do that. Luella Lake, Auger Lake, Vick Lake and Guerin Lake all have portage lake fishing. All of the lakes here are tea stained except for Kag Lake and Pringle Lake which are clear water lakes.
