Fishing with Plaisted Camps
Guests of the Plaisted Camps have access to big Northern Pike, Walleye, Lake Trout and Arctic Grayling. The Trophy Northern Pike are here and you can expect to battle 40 plus inch Pike. The best time is late spring when the big fish are near the shoreline and you and sight fish them. By the middle of summer, they move into the cabbage weed beds and the fly fishermen have the advantage. Big Northern Pike are a sucker for a nice dry mouse pattern fly. Be sure to pack one with you.
For Walleye, they are prolific here and you can catch them all season long. Expect to battle Walleye in the 18-30 inch range. The best time to fish for them is June and July and they are wild about jigs then. Also, Walleye make a great Shore lunch.
For Lake Trout, the best time is late spring and early summer before the water temperature gets too warm. Once July hits the big Lake Trout head to the deep water, but the lake has several 100-foot holes where you can still catch big, fat Lunkers.
For Arctic Grayling, all you need is a light action fly rod or spin caster and a few black Gnat flies. These are smart fish that will just amaze you.
Overall, expect great fishing and this is a place you will probably come back to next year too.
