Fishing at West Point Camp

The local lakes offer a variety of fish. Guests of the camp enjoy fishing for Walleye, Muskie, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, and Lake Trout. There is a newly constructed fish cleaning house with a dock, where guests can clean their own fish. Guests of the camp can bring their own boat. The camp offers boat rentals with a boat launch.

Guests enjoy a wide variety of fishing opportunities and habitats. From Lake Pelican, you can access the Sturgeon River, Lac Seul, Abram Lake, and Minnitaki Lake. Be sure to bring a variety of fishing gear because there are plenty of fish here for you to target. The Walleye and Smallmouth Bass offer plenty of sport, but the true fighters here are the Northern Pike and the Muskie. If you like a challenge the Muskie fishing, it is. These long, lean fish are known as "The Fish of 10,000 casts." Also available are the Lunkers or Lake Trout. These fish can grow quite large, and it is not unreasonable to catch a ten plus pound lake trout.

For families, there is a beautiful sandy beach and Pelican Lake is a great place to swim and play. The local area is forested and offers some decent hiking trails and opportunities to view wildlife. Sioux Lookout is just a mile from the camp and offers a great place to restock or to enjoy dinner out on the town.
